Working with Irena in the Croatian for Travelers course was a joyful challenge that I enjoyed immensely. She is patient and attentive to the students while also teaching the proper pronunciation and vocabulary that all travelers need. Irena offers cultural context throughout the course and she shares additional resources for students with questions. Her expertise in teaching languages is evident because she breaks down a complex language into manageable lessons. I never felt overwhelmed and I always felt intellectually stimulated. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning the Croatian language and culture.

Irena has done a superb job of organizing content that provides just the right mix of pragmatic travel scenarios, vocabulary, and grammar. And she makes the learning fun with various creative activities, plus a Quizlet that allows the student to practice pronunciation and vocabulary. Irena is very dedicated to the Croatian learning community. Good beginning orientation covering some basics for starting to learn to speak some Croatian. She is kind, delightful, patient, and encouraging to all students. The group size is small and appropriate. She has been providing homework to supplement the weekly lessons to keep participants engaged between classes. It is essential to do homework and practice and dedicate the time needed to learn. She explains many aspects of the language well and presents vocabulary and short dialogues for useful situations without overburdening learners with detailed grammar which can be overwhelming. Good supportive first step to learning or supplementing other study. She is very helpful with pronunciation and answering questions. Croatian can be a very difficult language to learn and she helped me over the hump of approaching my first Slavic language. This class has helped me to streamline the different topics in the language on which to focus. I would encourage those interested in learning who can devote the time to take her class as it will keep you engaged over a period of time and give you a small learning community. She also shares a lot of useful information about traveling in the country and the culture. I would encourage those interested in this format to take the class and begin to learn.
